Germany: Generation '68

Narrating the 1968 movement and its impact to date, Erika Sulzer-Kleinemeier’s photographs taken between the years 1967-2007 were exhibited at santralistanbul under the title of “Germany: Generation ‘68”. In her 139 photographs in the exhibition, the photographer focused on the central historical events and important personalities as well as the daily life of people.

Since the late 1960s Erika Sulzer-Kleinemeier has been working as a photojournalist for several newspapers and magazines such as Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, Frankfurter Rundschau, Rheinischer Merkur, taz, Telegraph Magazine and The Washington Post. In addition to her commissioned work, she has always pursued individual long term projects: immigrant workers between the years 1967 and 1972, the student movement in Frankfurt in 1968, disabled children, progressive changes in upbringing like the antiauthoritarian nursery schools, unions and strikes in the 1980s, installation of the Pershing II missiles in Mutlangen and Heilbronn, the Reunion, the automation in the automotive industry. During the 1990s she photographed, among others, social themes such as homelessness, nursing homes, mobility of elderly women in rural areas.
